UNWELCOME TECOMA MCDONALD’S LITTER TRACKED ON GOOGLE MAPS

It worth reposting a public post (below) that came to this page by a community member who is using some clever digital tools to track the litter that McDonald’s have unwelcomely brought to our town.

Normally when we post something about litter on this page we get attacked by “concerned trolls” who are quick to blame the customers and hold up McDonald’s as a shining beacon of environment protection as they “Sponsor Clean Up Australia Day”. We suggest they probably are a major catalyst for such clean-ups with a recent study showing McDonald’s responsible for around 32% of litter in the Monbulk Creek. In the UK the number is around 29% as you can read in this article.

Corporations like McDonald’s could (if they wanted) reduce waste by installing more bins around stores, reducing packaging, encouraging patrons to eat in and increasing litter patrols.

So for now if you see McDonald’s litter photograph it, send details to the email below or simply SMS the data (details below) and then bin it before it ends up in our fragile Dandenong Ranges waterways.

Have a look at the mess!

It’s only been 10 days into McDonald’s opening in Tecoma and it’s already hard to recognise our sleepy little town. Litter and rubbish everywhere!

Are you as outraged as I am? You can help by adding to the map. If you spot specifically branded rubbish, please take a photo and add the location of where you found the litter. You can then
