A message to Bernie Rafferty

Here’s an open letter to B.R. Demolition Director Bernie Rafferty.

Feel free to copy and paste into an email and send to info@brdemo.com.au.

Be polite (no abuse) and do not send unsigned emails. It’s just common courtesy to put a name to such as message

HEY BERNIE, IT’S THE WEEKEND, TIME TO DO SOME SOUL SEARCHING??

Hi Bernie, We trust our calls have been firm and polite. We know you hang up on a few, told a few to @&%# off (which wasn’t nice as they were being polite) and in some cases you listened to what we had to say. It’s also been reported in the press you got some abusive calls, we are sure that such calls are not from our group. They’re probably from the same people who threaten and intimidate our legal protest, the same people who photograph our cars and left illegal threats on them, who you may ask?…The McDonald’s Corporation. Yes, if they are prepared to go that far to push ahead with an unwanted and unwelcome store in Tecoma, then we guess a little intimidation to discredit us could have well been thrown into the mix.

Yes, the people that did get through to you reported that you are someone who thinks he is just doing a job.

But are you?

946327_10151514644368204_87179604_n(1)Did you not tell one of our callers that you “remained determined to go ahead with his job because; money speaks”

Not exactly something to be proud of really is it?

The largest selling paper in the country reported today that your wife thinks “you should pull the pin” She has spoken directly to Mums from Tecoma who have kids going to the school right across the road, as a parent would you want your kid’s school to be facing such a business. You also told someone that knocking down the buildings won’t effect the protest, your words we believe were “I’ll just clear the block and you guys can keep protesting against Maccas” trouble is Bernie, you can’t unscramble an egg.

You are now at the crossroads, you can take the job but at some point someone, maybe even your family will ask “are you proud of what you did?” or you can walk away based on the fact that McDonald’s in recent days have exhibited tactics that would make the mafia blush. If you turn your back on them you can hold your head up high to your business peers, our community and most of all your family.

Are you aware that our Change.org petition has just passed 75,000 signatures making it the second most successful petition Change.org has conducted in Australia? It’s well on its way to be number one, oh and number one was a boycott on Alan Jones after the way he spoke about the death of Julia Gillard’s father. So you are entering a zone that will damage McDonald’s brand and your business will be in the crossfire.??Are you aware that not only did our council unanimously vote it down, but all levels of political representation, local, state and federal are against it? So McDonald’s and in turn you have no political support for this project.

Are you aware that this week the State Library have contacted our website www.burgeroff.org and The State Library of Victoria (in partnership with the National Library of Australia) aims to build a comprehensive collection of Australian publications to ensure that Australians have access to their documentary heritage now and in the future. The Library has traditionally collected items in print, but it is also committed to preserving electronic publications of lasting cultural value.

Lasting cultural value…..you can’t smash that with a 16 tonne excavator.

Our story will be preserved for generations. For you this means, future generations of Raffertys will be able to see what “Bernie did” We wonder if they will be proud, or embarrassed that you thought “money speaks”

Take a look at your family, neighbours and community and consider what if what is happening in Tecoma was happening where you live. Because Tecoma is taking a stand we have the potential to make sure this doesn’t happen elsewhere. Communities must have priority over corporations.

Finally take a look at this video….this is our community.

Then ask yourself…..is it worth it?

Sincerely

Tecoma, the little town who roared
