We’re taking it to Chicago!

ChicagoAs a result of a phenomenal fundraising campaign initiated and supported by Change.org and Indiegogo.com, the No Maccas in the Hills campaign will be sending a small group of delegates  to Chicago in order to tell McDonald’s US Corporate Headquarters in Chicago, including the McDonald’s Board and major investors, that the bullying and intimidation needs to stop.

9 out of 10 people in Tecoma do not want McDonald’s in their town. If McDonald’s have any corporate accountability, they need to take heed of the fast majority of the community that have said both clearly and loudly, NO.

This started as a “what if” project. The discussion was along the lines of “What if we could hand our Change.org petition to McDonald’s US Headquarters in Chicago?” We set a target of $US2,500 and hoped to achieve that result in 17 days, we were shocked to find we hit that target in 55 minutes.

The money kept coming in and we wondered how could we make a major impact in Chicago. We considered local newspaper advertisements (Chicago Tribune) and maybe some major billboards. Such an initiative does not come cheap so last week we “bumped” our target to $A40,000.00, a tall order of which we have now successfully accomplished.

We are already in negotiations with people on the ground in Chicago and are confident we now have the funds, human resources and most importantly an incredible will to stop McDonald’s in their tracks.

burgeroff_changeAlready we have had enormous interest from local and international media about this initiative. Tecoma has become a real life David vs Goliath story and public opinion is on our side. Currently it’s been signed by 91,500 supporters, ideally we would love to have that number well over 100,000 for when we arrive in Chicago. If you have not yet signed the petition, you can do so by clicking on the ‘Burger Off’ box to the left of screen.

Again, our sincere thanks to those who have continued to support our cause, the 1680 who contributed, the team at Indiegogo for their help and support and of course the guys at Change.org who have helped Tecoma make history. From your generosity we now have the funds to facilitate a professional and high profile PR/media campaign right on the steps of McDonald’s Corporate Headquarters in Chicago.

No Maccas Flash Mob Strikes

ScreenShot1397
Saturday the 31st of August was the day that our No Maccas Flash Mob struck Knox City Shopping Centre food court.

A large group of local residents had been practising for weeks for this surprise performance which was staged alongside McDonald’s Knox City outlet.

The song ‘Do You Hear the People Sing?’ from Les Miserables was adapted to reflect our ongoing battle with McDonald’s and was sung beautifully by the talented bunch of singers.

The flash mob video is being spread far and wide, with over 34,000 views in less than a week, and has just been picked up by one of the largest and popular news aggregators in the US, The Huffington Post.

Yes, Tecoma truly is the little town that roared…
