Global Day of Action Against McDonald’s – June 6th 2013

Beginning next week, we will be launching a month long phase of actions against the McDonald’s Corporation who, despite claiming to be “community minded”, continue to treat the concerns of this community with total disregard.

What better way to lead into these actions than by supporting the ‘Global Day of Action Against McDonald’s’ this Thursday June 6th.

Mark your calendars, set your alarms, tie a ribbon around your finger and join our Facebook ‘Global Day of Action Against McDonald’s’ event page.

We encourage you all to declare your thoughts, make requests and share your opinions on McDonald’s Facebook pages; over 600,000 followers on their Australian page and 28,000,000 on their US page will be educated and informed.

McDonald’s continues to ignore our community concerns by failing to deliver on requests from the recent Delegates/McDonald’s Meeting. Let’s remind McDonald’s CEO Catriona Noble that she has been invited to meet with our local, state and federal members. And ask McDonald’s once again to show some evidence of the “clear support” that they continue to baselessly claim they have in Tecoma by releasing their phone survey results.

Let’s remind McDonald’s once again of our pledge of resistance; that every step they take, we will cost them money and reputation.

Taking Our Message to the Streets – Wheelie Bin Stickers

Saying ‘NO’ to McDonald’s in Tecoma is now as easy as taking out the rubbish.

The latest development from the ‘No Maccas in the Hills’ campaign is an absolute corker. Wheelie bin stickers! Some of you would have already seen the prototypes on display at the last ‘Community Meeting’ and as promised here they are…

Remember how fantastic ‘The Mad Mile’ looked just before the ‘March Against Maccas’… well here’s your opportunity to help recreate the same message in your own street.
Fantastic offers of support for our campaign against McDonald’s has been received from every corner of Australia. We’re happy to announce that ‘Your Wheelie’ has agreed to print a custom range of wheelie bin stickers and sell them to us at a heavily discounted price. Stickers are of the highest quality, made with a robust self-adhesive vinyl and are UV resistant.

Available now to order online are a standard range or you can elect to personalise them if you wish to add your house number.

Alternatively, Linda at Belgrave Organics has once again been kind enough to agree to take orders in her store. This reduces the postage cost as we will place one large order per week. A photo board will be on display in the next couple of days.

We’d like to take the opportunity to once again thankyou all for your ongoing support. Without the backing of this wonderful diverse community our Campaign would not have achieved the successes it has so far.

Demolition of Hazelvale Dairy approved – Non-violence training begins!

On Friday 17th of May, the Shire of Yarra Ranges approved the permits that will allow McDonalds  to demolish the old Hazelvale Dairy and Saffron Cottage. This means that demolition of these historic buildings could now occur at any time.

Preperations to resist this act of corporate vandalism are well under way. On Sunday 19th of May, over 30 people attended a non-violence training session at Belgrave Lake Park, learning about their rights and practicing non-violent picketing skills. To learn about your rights visit www.activistrights.org.au

Further training is occuring this week on Wednesday 22nd May and Thursday 23rd May in the evening. Places are strictly limited so please email your interest to nomaccasinthehills@gmail.com if you wish to attend. Cost is $10 to cover the hire of our trainer.

If you would like to go on the emergency contact SMS list to be informed when people are needed on the site to block demolition then also please email your mobile phone number to nomaccasinthehills@gmail.com
