McDonalds and other fast food outlets will be less likely to see the Yarra Ranges as a future development proposition with the passing of C126 Planning amendments.
The council amendment, which comes into effect this week, ensures new commercial developments respond to a town’s existing character and enhance amenity. Buildings and works that comprise drive-through sales facilities are discouraged.
Thankfully our community responded enthusiastically and wrote submissions for adjustments to the proposed planning amendment. In total 72 submissions were received of which 57 were pertaining to drive thru restrictions.
McDonalds were quick to respond too. Showing their hand that they did indeed have plans to develop further into the Dandenong Ranges. McDonalds elected to employ the services of town planner Bret Fleming at the Public Hearing. He presented for a total of 45 minutes, arguing their case for the ongoing development of drive thru facilities.
Community submitters that elected to be heard at the Public Hearing held on the 1st of August 2013 included Anita Dealy, Nick Seidenman, Jan Lancaster, Esther Kelly, Janine Rigby, Holly Desmond, Karl Williams, Heath Pawley, Jenny Saulwick, Dominic McKay, Lesley Williams, Paula Ewington and Peta Freeman.
We wish to also thank Tim Radisich – Town Planner who provided an enormous amount of guidance and advice, Councillor Samantha Dunn for advising of the amendment and encouraging submissions. Thanks also to Barbara Crisp and David Jewell for assisting with submissions and representing those that were unable to represent on the day.
