HILLS YOUTH SAY NO!

hills youth say no

Passionate Hills children continue to inspire community campaigners with their enthusiasm and creativity.

The Banner shown here was created by children who attended our last Community meeting and the post below is a firsthand account from yesterday mornings site protest.

Both examples clearly indicate that James Currie and McDonalds will be considered UNWELCOME VISITORS to Tecoma for generations to come.

“Show me the boy at 7 years old and I will show you the man”

Copied with permission from the original poster:
“I have a wonderful little story to share with you from this mornings protest at the site.
We were very lucky to have the Grade 5 students from Tecoma Primary School walk past the outlet on their way to Open Day at a Upwey High School.
I was absolutely overjoyed when one familiar little man greeted me by name and requested a ‘High 5’… This then started a ongoing procession of other High 5’s with most of the other students
My heart has been filled with hope and I would appreciate it if any parents of these children could pass on my heartfelt thanks.
I’ve heard similar stories of the Tecoma students yelling ‘No Maccas’ whilst traveling past the site but this is the first time I have witnessed the enthusiasm for our cause en masse during school hours.
These kids are my passion… it is their future and the future of my own girls that inspire me.
What I witnessed this morning should send alarm bells ringing at McDonald’s. This younger generation is currently being silenced at school due to the Education Dept insisting Tecoma Primary remains neutral. I look forward to these children starting High School where they will have the freedom to address the hottest topic in Tecoma. I have no doubt it will make for very interesting reading.
Resistance certainly remains fertile “

WE SAID NO WEDNESDAY

we say no Wednesday

Residents heading home this afternoon were greeted by a friendly reminder that Tecoma is still saying NO.

These are the people living with the ongoing impacts of the unwelcome McDonald’s development.

Residents that have recently moved.
Residents repulsed by the stench.
Residents fed up with weekend disturbances due to 24hr trading.
Residents picking up masses of McDonalds branded litter.
Residents concerned about illegal traffic movement in a school zone.
Residents visually offended by the structure totally lacking in neighborhood character.
Residents suffering from evening light emissions beyond VCAT approved hours.
And the list goes on!!!

Franchisee James Currie is not listening and has banned residents from entering the outlet so we will continue to share concerns on the street.

Touch one, touch all.
This battle is far from over.

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL WINTER IN THE HILLS

another beautiful day in the hills
Committed hills residents have begun their second Winter campaigning outdoors against the No. 1 UNWELCOME and UNWISE business in Tecoma. Smiling faces welcome morning passers by, radiating warmth despite the cold and rain.

The battle continues and we wish to thank our ‘All Seasons, All Stars’ for their determination, resilience and commitment to maintaining our community’s peaceful protest at the site.

Taken with permission from one of our campaigners:
“The rain shall not weary us, nor dampen our spirits. For we Hills folk have always lived with and welcomed the rain.”
