The Tecoma community radiated confidence, resilience and determination yesterday afternoon as they presented the history of our campaign against McDonalds at the CIC Conference at Moonee Valley Racecourse.
Conference attendees were delighted when an audio glitch was corrected by a sound technician who suddenly burst into song. Cheers erupted from the audience as sound tech/tenor, Nick Seidenham, was joined onstage by the passionate Tecoma Flash Mob for a full rendition of the adapted Les Miserables hit “Do you hear the people sing?”
Tecoma’s ‘No Maccas’ spokesman Garry Muratore went on to present the history of our campaign. ‘Community Protest 101’ was shared as attendees heard the various tools and methods that have been employed by our community to achieve the global recognition and support we enjoy today. Some attendees were even brought to tears whilst watching clips from our talented videographer Tim Smith.
Social media via facebook, twitter and instagram erupted with enthusiastic messages of support and congratulations from the moment our team took the stage. See #cic2014, #Tecoma and #Burgeroff.
Thankyou to all our dedicated campaigners for once again volunteering your time to showcase the awesome outcome a united community can achieve. Thanks also to Tim Smith and John Weeks for recording the event for our historical database and to Magpie House Upwey for hosting flashmob rehearsals. Special thanks to the team at OurCommunity.com.au for making us welcome and arranging transportation to the event.
