Howard Armitage, long time future franchisee of McDonald’s Tecoma has had a change of heart. It has been reported today (Tuesday 12th) in the Maroondah Weekly that he no longer wants to be part of a plan to open a McDonald’s in Tecoma! Community resilience in the face of this global bully McDonald’s has worked and we have got our point across to Mr. Armitage that McDonalds is UNWANTED in Tecoma.
A new franchisee, James Currie, of McDonalds Boronia has stepped in to take on Tecoma, and despite the largest ever gathering of people in Tecoma (the Rally on March 2nd, where 3,000+ gathered united against McDonalds), a Macca’s spokesperson confirmed that a meeting with the community would not be happening in the near future.
This is nothing short of an insult to the Hills community, considering in the same article, new franchisee, Currie states he hoped “the community and I can work together moving forward”. He is where our focus must now shift. All that we have done to drive the message home to Mr. Armitage, will now be levelled at you Mr. Currie! You have sorely underestimated how long and hard we are prepared to fight to save Tecoma.
As it is too late to change the venue of our Drive Through protest join us between 6.30PM and 7.30PM on Wednesday 13th (tomorrow night) to send a message via the drive through at the Ferntree Gully store to say “Thanks Howie – you finally took the hint! Can you still pass onto Maccas HQ we don’t a Macca’s in Tecoma”. (Meet 6PM in the carpark behind DVD store in Tecoma if you wish to travel in a convoy”.
THEN: if you have the time join us for our FIRST drive through at the Boronia McDonalds store (267 Dorset Rd Boronia) to welcome James Currie to our campaign! Tonight on the menu at Boronia is “No Maccas in Tecoma please!”
Remember to keep it polite as possible as we pass on our message to the staff at these stores, the staff are not our target, they are just doing their job!. It is the McDonalds corporation and franchisee’s who we want to send a message to.
