The No Maccas in Tecoma campaign has said that if McDonalds wins in Tecoma it will quickly flow onto other townships in the Shire of Yarra Ranges. Sure enough a massive proposal at the gateway of Healesville is being proposed including TWO 24 hour “convenience restaurants”. No guesses for who will end up in these businesses! So read the call out below from the Say no to the Commercialisation of Healesville Facebook page and write that letter of objection!
Only 80 people have sent letters of objection to counsel. It’s VITAL that EVERONE send a letter via post – this is the only way the counsel will accept objections on this application. There is only two weeks left for the deadline.

OLD SAWMILL SITE HEALESVILLE – YR2012/481
Dear Angus McGuckian & The Yarra Ranges Shire Counsel,
I am writing in regards to the planned development at the old Healesville Sawmill site – Application number: YR2012/481, 17-25 Maroondah Hwy Healesville.
The proposed plan includes the following:
– 24hr Service Station with 17 car spaces
– Two 24 hr car wash buildings with a height of 7metres
– Two Convenience restaurants (24 hrs on weekends, 12am weekdays)
Restaurant 1 seating 103 elevating to 7.73m high with 40 car spaces
Restaurant 2 seating 80 people elevating to 6.8m high with 27 car spaces
– Takeaway food premises (24 hrs weekends, 12am weekdays) 8 car spaces
– One Two story 12 room hotel operating 12am weekdays, 2am weekends with the following:
300 seat bistro; 140 seat conference room; 240 seat lounge room; al fresco court yard with sales & off licence bottle store for public purchasing of alcohol. Included are 177 car spaces, bike storage and bus parking area. Building 11metres high
– Two 24hr duel story self-storage buildings, 1 climate controlled. Height 10.6m
– Epicurean Centre, 3 stories high with entry facing Heritage Lane open 11pm weekdays, 12pm weekends – height 11.25m
– Large roundabout within the intersection of MaroondahHwy/HeritageLn/AilieRd
– Four traffic islands at either side of the intersection
– Four entry/exit roads along Maroondah Hwy
– Two entry/exit roads along Heritage Lane
I am a local resident and I am concerned and saddened by the proposed development in planning. The list of proposed buildings and businesses is excessive and on the most part unnecessary for the town of Healesville, the mass size and location also being an issue.
[LIST AS MANY TOPICS OR PARTS OF THE PLAN THAT RELATE TO YOUR OBJECTION AS YOU CAN and then elaborate on why you will be effected: FOR EXAMPLE:
INTERSECTION & LOCATION: You could mention how this will become the first thing tourists see as they enter into our beautiful town and how it’s in a quite part of town free from any shops etc
CONVIENIENCE RESTAURANTS: You could mention the rubbish impact, pollution, noise and the fact that most of us do NOT live here for convenient fast food.
SES (State Emergency Services) RADIO TOWER & AFFECTED ACCESS:- Important to mention that they will have trouble accessing their unit due to traffic congestion, the construction of the roundabout and the 2 entry lanes on Heritage Lane. Interference to their antenna situated directly behind the back fence will severely impact on Emergency communications also.
[listing this argument may very well give us a greater chance of overturning this development]
IN CONCLUSION:-
[YOUR PLEE – A SHORT SUMMARY OUTLINING THE REASONS YOU HAVE OBJECTED ABOVE]
Sincerely,

Do we know if the area under application is in Business Zone 1 for the Healesville Township? If it is we have Buckley’s chance of winning against the proposal.
