Update on Fight for 15

Fight for 15

The Chicago team had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Tyree Johnson at ‘Fight for 15’ headquarters on thier last day in Chicago last September. Tyree’s story is one that has stuck with with us. A good man, a hard worker and a loyal employee to a company who has shown him nothing but disdain. After dedicating 20 years of his life working for McDonald’s in Chicago, Tyree still earns a minumum wage of $8.25 per hour and has never been offered a raise. To add insult to injury Tyree has in fact had his hours cut and relies on family members to help him survive and keep food in his stomach. Tyree has also been sternly reprimanded by McDonald’s management for speaking to his workmates regarding their workplace rights and/or joining a union.

This is how the McDonald’s corporation treats its workforce in the US, and given half a chance I have no doubt they would not hesitate in cutting penalty rates and lowering their minimum wage here in Australia.
