MEETING & EVENTS:  Council Meeting: This Tuesday at 19:45

  • Come along to the last Council meeting this Tuesday,  before the council elections to send your demand that the Council launch a Supreme Court Appeal to the current councilors , (who most likely be re-elected). We need a crowd of people in the council chambers with placards demanding that the Council supports local democracy by launching this appeal. Even if an appeal is not launched on Tuesday we are laying the groundwork to pressure the new council with a show of community pressure.

CITTASLOW MEMBERSHIP :

  • Friends from the Blue Moutains tell me that folk up there who were instrumental in setting up Cittaslow, have also been instrumental in getting Maccas permanently banned from the Blue Mountains.
  • Shall we lobby ? our shire council to have the Shire of Yarra Ranges apply for ‘Cittaslow’ membership. ‘Cittaslow’ is an international movement, based in Italy which sprung from the ‘slow food’ movement. If our shire is awarded the Cittaslow membership, it means that we have become part of an international community committed to sustainable infrastructure & planning. We need shire council support to apply for Cittaslow membership. (By Cath Russell) Links are
  • Update – 25.10.2012 – burgeroff.org has been contacted by Cath Russell asking the following;
      Cittaslow accrediation is usually a 2 year process.
      There’s a group of us already formed and speaking with the Cittaslow orgs in Yea and Katoomba. We’re meeting with Yea this coming week.
      Cittaslow wont be a quick response to the Maccas situation but it might help in future planning.
      There’s a facebook group formed already for people wanting to be part of the Cittaslow process for the Dandenong Ranges; we’re at
      https://www.facebook.com/groups/287566488010936/?bookmark_t=group
      It’d be great if people were sent our way.
    At this point tho, it probably doesnt make sense to lobby council re Cittaslow- the movement is already forming & we’ll need to connect with them soon- if folk could contact us and join with us, rather than double up, we’ll be a lot more effective!
