It is simply not acceptable for a corporation like McDonalds that makes 5 billion a year to bully their way into communities that don’t need or want them. They contribute nothing to their local economies, in fact, they bleed local economies, causing other small businesses to loose their business. It becomes a mecca for afterhours antisocial behaviour, litter becomes a huge problem that McDonalds will wash their hands of, leaving local councils to fit the bill and will cause extra traffic and the stench of McDonalds replaces fresh mountain air. One such community is Tecoma in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria. The people said NO, the council unanimously said NO but McDonalds with their deep pockets had enough clout over VCAT for a permit. This is an absolute disgrace that McDonalds can muzzle out voices of opposition with their dollars, it will ruin the town of Tecoma which just so happens to be opposite a primary school. It will ruin the character amenity of the Dandenong Ranges. The Dandenong Ranges are not just another part of Melbourne, they are a place where Melburnians and tourists from elsewhere can visit to get away from suburban scrum. This is what has kept the Dandenong special over the last century. McDonalds latest attempts to stifle opposition by placing injunction orders on peaceful protesters as well as slapping out court writs on 8 community members only illustrates how low they are prepared to go to intimidate the community

16,000signatures locally…& now this petition is more nationally widespread… Leave Tacoma as it is…respect the people’s voices for a McDonalds free town…it is not what they want… I live in a McDonald’s free town by public demand…please stop taking legal action against the protestors as they are.using their democratic right to protest strongly.
Thank you for all the charity work but leave Tacoma as the residents want THEIR town… Please respect the rights of tbe citizens

Gee… What can I say! I’m pretty pissed off & disgusted with this affair & the GUTLESS manner in which McDonalds are behaving. I do not live in Tecoma but you all have EVERY right to determine your destiny. Unfortunately I am not in Facebook so I can’t leave a contribution to their page but would love to “give them a serve”…. Please Keep up the fight & don’t let these Unhealthy Mongrels get their Way!!

    Warmest Wishes Eric T.

Unable to attend as I live in England but you have my wholehearted support and I will definitely be there in spirit – especially through my daughter who will, I’m sure, be marching with you. Keep it up!!

Unfortunately I will not be at your March against Maccas as I reside in the U.K. but I have fond memories of your town and the area around having traveled through there on several occasions in recent years.
Keep up the good work and I will spread the word of your protest in the U.K.

McDonald’s extraordinarily ruthless, bullying and rapacious mission tramples over the rights of so many local communities. This is just another example of their disgusting tactics. I wholeheartedly support the good people and councillors of Tecoma and have Facebooked this subject for all it’s worth. I especially feel for the individual residents who bravely acted as bulwarks against this scourge and are now facing legal action for rightfully trying to protect their kids’ wellbeing and save the precious Dandenong ranges from turning into a clone of so many other urban wastelands. Keep fighting the good fight, Tecoma – you have thousands of supporters out there.
